Bakalim - Turkish for “we shall see!”
Design Objective
Sailing yachts come in all shapes and sizes and suited ideally to specific purposes. The yacht that successfully races around the cans in a local club race is hardly suited to crossing the Atlantic. None the less there are many records of the smallest and simplest of boats completing epic voyages but invariably they are driven by crews who are exceptional.
There are few people who do not feel the lure of the sea, there are even fewer who willingly put themselves and their families at risk or discomfort.
There is the irresistible urge to be in or on the sea , to feel that amazing sensation of being on a vessel that crosses a body of water seemingly without effort consuming no power than that of the wind. There is also for many the attraction to be free from over bearing government bureaucracy and taxes, the ability to chose a different way of life.
So this was the challenge, to build an uncompromisingly comfortable safe sailing yacht. One which will perform as a home, perfectly able to be self sufficient at anchor for long periods providing a work space utilising the latest instant communications. There is little point sailing oceans if you learn and explore nothing after you arrive.
The boat must also cross oceans safely and in comfort. This requires a sailing rig that is both efficient and yet non threatening. Where the sails can quickly and easily be adjusted to the wind.
